In short
Acatudy's question bank stores your questions by topic and subtopic, imports them from CSV, Excel, GIFT and Aiken files, and turns them into unlimited practice tests for students and timed official exams that are scored automatically. Each question can include an image and an explanation that students see after answering.
Question types
| Type | How it is scored | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Multiple choice | Automatically. 2 to 4 options, one correct (true/false is a 2-option question). | Most standardized test and licensing questions. |
| Numeric (grid-in) | Automatically. Accepts several valid answers, fractions and decimals, with a tolerance. | SAT-style math and any question with a numeric answer. |
| Short answer | By a teacher, from a grading queue. Up to 500 characters. | Definitions, short explanations, one-line responses. |
| Essay | By a teacher, with model answer criteria and maximum points. Up to 5,000 characters. | Writing practice and open-ended questions. |
Every question can carry an explanation, shown on the results screen. Questions in the practice bank can also include one image.
A practice bank and an exam bank
Acatudy keeps two banks. The practice bank feeds the tests students generate for themselves, by topic, as many times as they like. The exam bank holds the questions of your official exams and trial exams, organized by subtopic, and does not count toward your plan's question limit.
When you want to reuse practice questions in an exam, you can copy them from the practice bank into the exam.
Import the questions you already have
CSV and Excel
Upload a .csv or .xlsx file or paste rows straight from a spreadsheet. Columns are matched automatically, in English or Spanish, and you can download a template to start from.
GIFT and Aiken
Bring in plain-text question files in these two common formats, with sample files to check your own against.
XML quiz exports
Question files exported in XML from other learning platforms are supported, including categories, which become topics and subtopics.
Preview before saving
See every question before it is imported, with duplicates detected and unsupported questions listed with the reason. Up to 3,000 questions per batch.
You can export the practice bank back to CSV at any time, with the same columns as the template.
From questions to practice tests and exams
- Student-built practice tests: students pick topics and get 1 to 200 random questions, in practice mode with instant feedback or in timed exam mode.
- Unit practice: attach a set of random questions from the right subtopics to each unit of a course.
- Official exams and trial exams: pick up to 50 questions, set the duration (5 to 300 minutes), attempts, points per question and an optional penalty for wrong answers.
- Fair scoring: multiple-choice and numeric questions are scored on the server; written answers wait for a teacher, and the student is notified when the grade is ready.
- Quality control: students can report a question they think is wrong, and you review the report from your dashboard.

Frequently asked questions
How many questions can I store?
The practice bank limit depends on your plan: 100 questions on Free, 1,000 on Basic, 10,000 on Professional and unlimited on Institutional. Exam bank questions do not count toward that limit.
Can questions include math formulas?
Questions are text with an optional image. There is no formula editor yet, so complex formulas are best added as an image.
Can I import questions with several correct answers?
Not yet. Multiple-choice questions have one correct option; questions that need several correct answers, matching or ordering are listed as unsupported in the import preview.
Do students see the correct answers?
Yes, after submitting. The results screen shows the correct answer and your explanation for every question.
